Reflections from WEF 2025: Building Resilience and Driving Impact

With the 2025 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting behind us, we at Clarmondial are energized by the discussions and insights from Davos. From innovative financing models to advancing the resilience of supply chains, the following insights are shaping our agenda for the year ahead:

1. Resilience as a Business and Investment Driver

In today’s volatile economic environment, resilience has become a critical driver for businesses and investors. The uncertainties of 2024 – including record crop prices for cocoa and coffee – have fostered caution and refocused attention on strategies that create real value.

C-suite executives we spoke with remain committed to environmental and sustainability goals, and re-evaluating how to achieve them while maintaining competitiveness. The focus is shifting from exhaustive data collection to identifying metrics that matter. Companies are becoming more pragmatic, seeking solutions aligning with operational realities and long-term goals.

Building resilience requires addressing not only financial and operational risks but also supply chain vulnerabilities – including the well-being of key partners, such as farmers, and the health of ecosystems. Supply chains are complex networks with diverse stakeholders, each with unique goals, margins, and risk profiles. Through our pioneering work in developing and implementing financing approaches that leverage value chain partnerships, Clarmondial is fostering accountability and unlocking new financial flows to support sustainable sourcing and strategic supply chain transitions.

A notable example is our collaboration with SEI for the development of an innovative framework for nature measurement, monitoring, reporting, and verification. This framework is not just about data – it is about generating actionable insights that help businesses make informed decisions, advance climate and nature targets, and attract capital.

2. Wealth with Empathy

In a world increasingly driven by technology, there is growing recognition of the importance of relationships and trust. Family offices and private foundations are uniquely positioned to catalyze impactful investments in climate, environment, and nature. Family offices and next-generation asset owners (“next gens”) show a growing interest for investing in nature and climate, and in innovative financing models. Yet, many of these investors face challenges navigating new geographies and markets.

Clarmondial is bridging this gap by fostering awareness and connections between private investors—such as family offices and next gens—to build confidence in nature-related investments. Specifically, we are curating networks of aligned capital providers to accelerate and enhance capital deployment in this space. Following successful gatherings during New York Climate Week and a Zurich event co-hosted with LGT VP and Good Energies Foundation, we are doubling down on this approach. These gatherings bring together trusted individuals to exchange insights and opportunities, with a focus on bridging emerging market institutions and established global players.

3. Tech-Enabled Opportunities with Real-World Context

While technology continues to revolutionize industries, its success depends on grounded, real-world applications. In Davos, there was a clear call to move beyond “tech for the sake of tech.” Effective solutions require a deep understanding of the problem and creating meaningful collaborations.

AI is a revolutionary general-purpose technology with immense potential to address Scope 3 emissions, uncover and mitigate value chain risks, and enable data-driven decision-making. However, high-quality data remains crucial – AI is only as effective as the accuracy of its inputs.

At Clarmondial, our multidisciplinary expertise positions us to bridge the gap between technical innovation and practical business needs. In 2025, we are excited to explore partnerships with specialist partners to integrate cutting-edge tools into our work and add value to our business partners.

Looking Ahead to 2025
