Zurich / Stockholm – 16 March 2026
Clarmondial, an independent impact investment advisory company, and Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), a world-renowned environmental research institute, are expanding their collaboration to advance the next phase of work on the Nature Tool, a tool which aims to help assess nature-related risks and opportunities across landscapes and agricultural supply chains.
The Nature Tool supports Clarmondial’s broader mission to mobilize capital for sustainable natural resource management through investment vehicles such as the Food Securities Fund (including the Accountable Cocoa and Coffee Tranche), and the Biosphere Integrity Platform. It draws on existing data sets to produce decision-relevant guidance related to biodiversity, watershed health, and climate mitigation, adaptation & resilience.
The expanded collaboration combines SEI’s scientific expertise and data capabilities with Clarmondial’s experience in developing practical approaches that link environmental science with financing that strengthens the resilience of agricultural value chains, and contributes to positive environmental and social outcomes. The aim of this next phase is to digitalize the Nature Tool, making it more efficient and practical and extending its usability beyond Clarmondial to other actors. The partners plan to extend the collaboration to additional organizations with digital capabilities and will share further information with a select group of potential partners later this month.
“As actors across sectors increasingly recognize the importance of nature-related risks and opportunities, robust and context-relevant data becomes essential,” said Ed Carr, Centre Director and Senior Scientist at SEI US. “Through this collaboration we are working to translate cutting-edge research into a practical Nature Tool that enables organizations to better understand and respond to environmental challenges.”
The next phase will focus on refining methodologies, integrating datasets, and further developing the digital aspects of the tool to help assess material nature-related impacts and dependencies across landscapes and supply chains, and to enable sustainable finance.
“An authentic nature investment strategy requires both standardized and context-specific information,” said Tanja Havemann, Co-Founder and Director of Clarmondial. “Our collaboration with SEI brings together complementary expertise across science, data and finance to strengthen the analytical foundations for building resilient supply chains.”
The partners aim to further develop, scale, and operationalize the Nature Tool in collaboration with partners who share the ambition of strengthening nature-informed decision-making across landscapes and agricultural value chains.
