Earth Genome selected to develop digital prototype of Nature Tool to support investment decision making

Zürich, Stockholm, Los Altos – 04 June 2026

Clarmondial, an independent impact investment advisory company, and Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), a world-renowned environmental research institute, have selected Earth Genome to develop a digital version of the Nature Tool, a science-based tool designed to assess nature-related risks and opportunities across agricultural sourcing landscapes. Earth Genome is a non-profit applying AI, science, and digital design to put earth data in the right hands at the right time.

The Nature Tool was co-developed by Clarmondial and SEI and underpins Clarmondial’s approach to screening, structuring and executing investments in agricultural sourcing landscapes. It uses a weighted, multi-node decision structure to assess biodiversity, watershed health, climate mitigation, and adaptation and resilience outcomes. The Nature Tool addresses a gap that has been evident in practice: that the wealth of available environmental data rarely translates into insights that are strategically useful for investors and investees. By combining global datasets with proprietary local intelligence through a structured analytical decision support tool, it generates decision-relevant insights about specific landscapes, for both investors structuring and managing transactions and businesses (investees). The first module to be digitalized is the Biodiversity Decision-Support Tool, which will form the foundation for the broader Nature Tool build-out.

“Nature is inherently context specific. Assessing it meaningfully requires combining global datasets with proprietary field data and local intelligence in a way that generates genuine strategic insight, not just reporting for the sake of reporting. The Nature Tool was built with SEI to address this need for investors and businesses alike. Engaging Earth Genome to digitalize it is the next step in building that foundation” said Tanja Havemann, Co-Founder and Director of Clarmondial.

“Through this work we are translating data and research into a practical tool that enables organizations to identify opportunities and make strategic decisions for nature across agricultural landscapes. Automating and digitalizing the Nature Tool is the critical next step in making that rigor accessible at scale” said Ed Carr, Centre Director and Senior Scientist at SEI US.

“A wealth of biodiversity and geospatial data exists, but processing and analyzing it in a way that is strategically relevant for private sector investment decisions has remained out of reach. We are excited to work with Clarmondial and SEI to solve exactly that problem” said Glen Low, Co-Founder and Strategy Lead at Earth Genome.

The prototype will be tested in agricultural sourcing landscapes in Sub-Saharan Africa later this year. Future phases will extend the tool to cover additional impact domains and open access to a wider range of users.
